Scotspeak

Scotspeak was first published by the SLC’s predecessor organisation, the Scots Language Resource Centre. It was hugely popular with actors and others who wanted to know what Scots and Scottish people actually sound like. A new edition is now available.

As an introduction to those interested in linguistics and Scottish culture, without the academic jargon traditionally associated with the field, Scotspeak provides a comprehensive guide to modern urban Scots. Downloadable recordings of native speakers supplement the direct approach of this guide, focussing on the study of
pronunciation and a description of sounds.
