The following link to the Elphinstone Kist is to an article by David Johnston about the challenges of Scots use in secondary schools.

Noting the continuing 'lack of consonance' between home Scots use and what is expected in the school setting, Johnston explores the reasons Standard English can still be emphasised at secondary level. He goes on to argue the case that Scots should be a part of secondary school life across all subject areas, and he gives examples of where in the curriculum this could happen.
