Been a wee while syne I wis last able tae blog on here (hou maun Uni wark get i the wey o whit I'm wantin tae dae?), but a story I saw a week or sae back fair got me thrawn an I thocht I'd let ye aw feel thrawn wi me ;)

I saw this story: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1162099/I-dont-speak-Glaswegian-Labour-chief-racism-row-Can-translate-remark-Scottish-activist.html

on the front page o a paper, an thocht I'd check it out. Whan I did (an ye've nae idea hou clarty I felt gaein on the Mail's wabsite) it fair biled ma bluid. Nou, I ken that Scots Language issues hae been mair supportit by memmers o a certain poleitical pairty nor ithirs (tho the support for Mr. Tavish Scott's motion last year micht indicate a pleasant chynge), an I equally weill ken that this isna the richt place for bletherin about ma ain poleitical views. Houe'er tae see public feigures o onie pairty caw doun wir language an syne be sae un-contrite about it efterwards isna richt an it isna acceptable

For masel, I dinna believe him that it wis an issue o microphones or accoustics, based on him speirin for a "translation", an that's no whit ye dae gin ye jist canna hear a body. Jist haein the decency tae apologise efterwards for sic an unthinkin comment wad be walcome, but nae sic luck.

At the ruit o this is the wrangous thinkin that there's a richt an a wrang wey tae speak, an the wrang wey is the Scots wey. Conseiderin the kind o views papers like the Mail tend tae haud about local people haein tae chynge the wey they dae things tae suit outsiders, I'm surprised at the tone o the airticle an aw - is prejudice agin fowk awricht gin it's jist their language ye'r dingin? Or is it that the prejudice is OK gin it's comin frae a monoglot English-speaker? The comments on the story wis jist scunnersome tae say the verra least an aw. "Jockanese"? Get tae...

I'm awa tae cool aff.

Aw the best, an God Bless,
Dunc

Sang o the Week: Ensiferum - Windrider. Jist magic. Canna get enou o the deifferent weys o playin a simple effective melody. Braw.
