Scots poetry used to create theatre panels.

Categorised as:

Soutar panel (part)

The Scots words used by William Soutar in his poetry have been used in two new large theatre panels created by embroidery experts in Perth. Unveiled this week at the AK Bell library theatre, the panels hang on either side of the stage. Perth Embroiderers' Guild were commissioned to create the pieces to mark the renaming of the theatre, now called the William Soutar Theatre.
The pieces are an extraordinary demonstration of craftsmanship. The unveiling event included a talk by one of the embroiderers explaining how the pieces were created and quoting the poems which inspired the work. We have here an extract from this talk by Heather Moir which is in English with quotations from the Scots poetry. Some of the images here are taken from a leaflet produced by AK Bell library which provides comprehesive details of the stitches and materials used.
