Feature brings in information from Orkney
SLC Director, Michael Hance, said today that he was very pleased with the response from Orkney to the Centre’s request for people to send in information about dialect resources on the islands.
Hance was speaking after news about the Centre’s interest in the island’s language had been reported in local newspapers and on Radio Orkney.
“The Centre has had good relations with people on Orkney but for some reason we have had trouble in collecting information about what is being done there to support the local dialect. Last week we had a lot of coverage in the local press – since then we have received a great deal of information about local resources that previously we hadn’t known about. People are visiting our web site to find out what is happening all over Scotland and we had felt for some time that the information we held on Orkney was rather inadequate. We are pleased that we are now able to fill in the gaps.”
